Turn long videos into short clips with Clip It
Import a video of up to 60 minutes, choose the enhancements, and review the AI-cut clips and their virality scores in Curate before they publish.
Clip It takes one long video and finds the moments that stand on their own. It cuts each into a clip of up to 120 seconds and adds captions, a title, and a thumbnail, so you don't edit by hand.
Every clip gets a virality score and waits in Curate > Activity in Brand Control Center (BCC) until you approve it, unless you choose to publish automatically. Clip It is how BCC delivers clip generation from long-form video. For where it fits in the wider curation workflow, see Generate and publish clips from long-form videos.
Approved clips follow the same moderation rules as every other post, which you set in Control. For the whole product, see Control: what it does and where to start.
Video requirements
| Requirement | Limit |
|---|---|
| Sources | A video link, or files from your computer, Google Drive, Dropbox, or an AWS S3 bucket |
| Formats for file uploads | mp4, mov, avi, wmv, mkv, webm |
| File size | Up to 2 GB per file |
| Duration | Less than 60 minutes per video |
| Speech | The video needs spoken audio. Clip It cuts along the transcript, so a video with nothing to transcribe fails with "No transcript was found in this video." |
| Rights | You confirm the video is your original work when you import it. |
Any aspect ratio works as input. With Smart crop on, each clip is reframed around the person speaking.
Import a video
- In BCC, go to Curate > Activity and click + New Post.
- Choose Clip it.
- Add the video. Paste a video link into Drop a video URL, or click Choose files and choose Your Computer, Google Drive, Dropbox, or S3 Bucket. You can also drag files onto the page. A file over 2 GB, over 60 minutes, or in another format is marked with the reason and isn't uploaded.
Choose the enhancements
By default, every option is on. Clear the ones you don't want; they apply to every clip from the video.
| Option | Group | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Show Title on Video | In-Video Features | Writes an AI-generated title, based on the clip's content, on the clip for its full length, so viewers see the topic at a glance. |
| Add background music | In-Video Features | Adds a music track to each clip. |
| Show captions | In-Video Features | Burns captions generated from the transcript into the clip, so viewers follow it with the sound off. |
| AI Image | In-Video Features | Inserts AI-generated images that illustrate what's being said. |
| GIFs | In-Video Features | Inserts GIFs matched to the transcript. |
| Transitions | In-Video Features | Adds transitions between the cuts inside a clip. |
| Add description | Metadata Features | Generates a post description for each clip. |
| Smart crop | Advanced | Detects the main subject and reframes each clip so the person speaking stays the focal point. Best for interviews, presentations, and talking-head videos. |
| Add clickbait thumbnail | Advanced | Picks the best frame and adds a text overlay related to the video's topic, as the clip's thumbnail. |
| Merge videos into clips | Advanced | Not available. The option is disabled. |
Under Caption style, choose Best fit to let Clip It choose the look, or Custom to pick one of the preset styles for all the clips.
Note
In the current release, Clip It ignores Add background music, AI Image, and GIFs: clips come out without them whatever you select.
With Add clickbait thumbnail on, each clip gets a thumbnail like these:
Get the clips
- Under Import in, choose one or more communities and their groups. To let Genuin route each clip to the closest match from its content, choose Auto-curated Community or Auto-curated Groups. Learn more in Add and curate content in AI-generated communities and groups.
- Choose how the clips publish:
- Click Get clips to create the clips as drafts. They wait in Activity under Awaiting to post, and nothing publishes until you approve it.
- Click Publish Settings to skip the review. Choose Auto Publish to post each clip as soon as it's generated. Or choose Schedule, pick a date, a time at least 1 hour 30 minutes ahead, and a time zone, and click Get clips & Schedule.
BCC returns to Activity filtered to Processing and shows "Your clips are being created." Processing continues if you leave the page. Activity Logs, next to Activity, lists each import with its status and, if it failed, the reason.
How Clip It cuts a video
Clip It runs four stages on each video:
- Transcription. Genuin transcribes the audio with timestamps. If the source carries chapter markers, they become clip boundaries.
- Segmentation. An AI model reads the transcript and splits it where the topic changes. For each segment, it picks an opening that works as a hook and a line that closes it.
- Editing. Each clip is cut, cropped, captioned, titled, and given a thumbnail according to your options.
- Scoring. Each clip's transcript is scored for virality.
Segments longer than 120 seconds are split again, and neighboring short segments are merged while they fit under 120 seconds. A video shorter than 120 seconds becomes a single clip. The number of clips follows the number of topics in the video, not a fixed count.
Virality score
Each clip gets a virality score, which helps you spot the clips most likely to perform well on social platforms and in your social experience. Genuin scores four rubrics from the clip's transcript, each on a 0–100 scale, and combines them into a Viral score out of 100. Curate shows all five.
| Rubric | What it measures | Scores fall between |
|---|---|---|
| Hook | The opening 3 to 10 seconds, which decide whether viewers keep watching | 50 and 100 |
| Flow | Structure and continuity: how clearly the clip moves from one point to the next | 60 and 100 |
| Value | How useful or meaningful the clip is, such as educational, informational, entertaining, or motivational | 60 and 100 |
| Trend | How closely the clip matches current social and platform trends | 60 and 100 |
The Viral score weights Flow at 40%, Trend at 30%, Hook at 20%, and Value at 10%. Clips with humor, sarcasm, inspiration, suspense, or an educational angle get 10 extra points on each rubric, and clips between 10 and 45 seconds long get 5 more points. The result is rescaled so that a weighted score of 60 or more displays between 70 and 99.
For example, a clip that scores 55 for Hook, 70 for Flow, 65 for Value, and 60 for Trend shows a Viral score of 79. Use the score to rank the clips from one video against each other.
Review and approve clips
- Go to Curate > Activity. The tiles count clips by state: Awaiting to post, Processing, Scheduled to post, Approved, and Rejected.
- Click Awaiting to post and open a clip. The panel plays it and shows its generated title, a description you can edit up to 2,000 characters, the transcript, and the viral scores.
- Check Post to, which names the destination and the account the post comes from. If the routing is wrong, click Move to change the community or group.
- Click Approve or Reject.
Approved clips publish to the chosen group as posts from the account shown under Will be posted by, and they pass through content moderation like any other post. Rejected clips stay under Rejected and never publish. To publish clips without manual review, see Set up automatic content approval.
Limitations
- Less than 60 minutes and up to 2 GB per video. Longer or larger videos are rejected at import.
- Up to 120 seconds per clip. Longer segments are split.
- Speech is required. Silent or music-only videos fail, and Activity Logs shows the reason.
- One source per import. Files from your computer and files from a cloud drive go in separate imports.
- Schedules need at least 1 hour 30 minutes of lead time. An earlier time isn't accepted.
- Merge videos into clips isn't available. The option is disabled.
- Background music, AI images, and GIFs aren't applied. The options are listed, but clips come out without them.
